Las Vegas, Nevada – Editoral

April 12th, 2013

Throughout the years I have had amazing opportunities to travel with my photography business and I was thrilled when I found out I would be traveling to Las Vegas, Nevada this past March. I had never been to Las Vegas and if I could be honest I was a little nervous about going, since you hear so many stories about ‘What happens in Vegas…’.

First things first, find a travel companion who has been before. At least once a year I travel to a large photography conference to improve my skills, refresh and rejuvenate. Last February I traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana for the Imaging Conference and met the fabulous Jen Osojnicki from Massachusetts.  We stuck together and she showed me the side of New Orleans I would never have seen on my own, outside the hotel room and conference centre.  Jen took me to the Garden district and to Bourbon Street and I will forever be thankful that we met one early morning on the shuttle.  We discussed attending a different conference for 2013, WPPI, it is always held in Las Vegas and I was thankful that Jen had been before.  Although our flights were scheduled to arrive minutes apart mine was delayed for a few hours so I arrived just after midnight on the weekend of the time change, so really, it was 4am for me!

Jen and I headed out early for some classes but we made sure to take in a few sights of Las Vegas as well.  Since we left snow behind us we made the most of unseasonably hot days in Vegas. We even spent an hour or two by the pool for lunch one afternoon.  I came home refreshed with new ideas, new techniques and a completely different view of Las Vegas than the one I had imagined.

Enjoy a few images from that trip and a huge thank you to Jen for being my travel companion. We had lots of fun, lots of laughs and have set our sights on our next adventure in 2014.

Welcome 2013 – #Blissdom13 Conference – Dallas Texas

January 10th, 2013

What an amazing year 2012 was for Anna Epp Photography. I have lots of images to share with you all over the course of the next few weeks. As October became increasingly busy I  was looking forward to a quiet November and as all things seem to go these days November turned out to be just as busy as October so I looked ahead to the end of December and the break that I take with my family to celebrate the holidays. Much needed and well deserved we all took the time to spend it mostly together, relaxing and being thankful for all that 2012 brought us.

As we start off 2013 I can’t help but be excited as there are so many amazing things are in store for the coming year.  The first one that I would like to share with you is that I will not only be attending Blissdom ’13 in Dallas, Texas this year, but I will be appearing as a speaker. I have photographed the last three Blissdom Canada Conferences in Toronto and  attended Blissdom ’12 last year in Nashville, Tennessee as a Communty Leader in Photography.  Blissdom is best described as a Conference about finding your Bliss, but it is so much more. If you are a blogger, photographer, writer this is a conference for you. It is definitely geared more towards women but there are always a few men in attendance.

Join me at BlissDom!

The conference is set up with four Tracks: Business, Life Development, Writing and Photography and within these tracks are sessions to help you grow, rejuvinate and inspire. I spent most of my time last year in the Photography Track as that is my niche and I learned so much from the speakers that I came home fully inspired for the year ahead. A direct quote from the Blissdom site may sum it up better than I could:

“The four BlissDom ’13 tracks, Business, Writing, Life Development, and Photography, touch upon key aspects of our everyday lives, from our work to our leisure.

Whether you are an entrepreneur looking to expand your brand, a writer searching for your authentic voice, a photographer hoping to create beautiful works, or just need to remember how to dream big…our tracks not only have something for everyone, they all have something for YOU.”

My Session will be more of a workshop as I will be bringing my Rock Your Camera class to Blissdom’13. This session is for those of you who own a DSLR and don’t actually know how to use it beyond leaving it Automatic. If you love your DSLR on AUTO, you will love it more once you find out how to use ISO, Aperature and Shutter Speed. Whether you own a Nikon a Canon or a Sony, the principles will be the same. I will explain why you would want to be able to change these settings and make sure that you know where to change them in your camera.  If you just got your camera and have barely touched it, bring it with you! Don’t be shy, by the time you leave Dallas you will have filled up a memory card and will be well on your way to taking some fabulous photos.

In addition to my session I will also be hosting the Thursday Photowalk this year. This is for anyone with a camera, whether it is a DSLR, SLR, Point and Shoot or the phone in your camera (#iPhoneography) if you will be at the Gaylord Texan on Thursday during the day you can join us as we capture the gorgeous facility that will be hosting us this year. More details on time and where to meet will be available closer to the conference date.

I look forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting lots of new people in Dallas!

M Family – Ottawa Family Photographer

October 16th, 2012

Every once in a while you meet a family that reminds you of every single reason you are a photographer. The M Family gets to hold the honour of that this year. I received a phone call from a friend from High School (I wanted to say old friend, but really, we aren’t old, so lets just say young friend from High School), I photographed her daughters sweet sixteen last year and she wanted to let me know she had passed my name along to one of her friends. I was thrilled with the phone call as I love recommendations and a friend of a friend, how great is that? Fast forward a day or so and I hear from the M Family, I am asked if I can swing by for a photo session, I let them know my really tight schedule for October and wonder if we can even make it happen. I offer up an early morning session and am thrilled that it can be done.

A gorgeous October morning, so warm I am still in my beloved skorts from Summer and there is even a little fog on the river. Fog is good and bad, good because we get gorgeous light, bad because you miss all the amazing colours in the trees across the river. But, we must forge ahead as time of the essence. I arrive and meet this amazing family and right away we clicked and I was reminded of exactly why I became a photographer. Those moments in time.

I want to share with you the M Family.

Thank you so much for inviting me to your home and sharing this special time with your family. I enjoyed every minute and I look forward to summer photos on your beach and a huge BBQ, which I may sneak in a camera for just to capture the amazing location. And thank you for reminding me why I chose to do what I do.

The D Family – The Barn – Stittsville Family Photographer

October 7th, 2012

Another fabulous family at The Barn from last weekend.  This is the second in a set of good friends who entrusted me with their family photos. I think I said it in my last post that next to photographing family, close friends is the next hardest thing for me.  I have to say that we sure did have a lot of fun with this one. Twin boys who are three and their older brother who is five, can you just imagine hanging out with them on a weekend?  Mom and Dad are my true heroes.  I know that the younger years are hard with boys this close in age, but I know that in a few years they will have grown up to be fabulous men who will be nothing but helpful to Mom and Dad.  In the meantime, get a load of their cuteness.

A huge thank you to the D Family for having me photograph your family, I look forward to another few years down the road so we can see how much the boys have changed.

If you would like to book a session at The Barn, there are still a couple of spots open for the October 14th Mini-Sessions. Once those are filled, and the weather turns cold sessions at The Barn will not be available again until next year, so don’t delay. Contact me today to book your session.

Family sessions not at The Barn are also available, a few dates left in late November and early 2013.  Gift Certificates can be purchased for the holidays, perfect gifts for under the tree.

First Look at The Barn – Stittsville Family Photographer

October 5th, 2012

I am so excited to share some images from a session I had a The Barn last weekend.  The M Family is an amazing family and I feel honored to be asked to capture their amazing smiles and beauty.  I think that next to photographing family, photographing some of your closest friends is one of the hardest things to do. Mrs M and I are quite good friends and travel partners so when I was asked to capture their family, I was not only honored but I had a short case of the nerves. Once they arrived at The Barn, all those nerves went away and we had a great time.  Children are drawn to The Barn despite the fact that it never housed animals, it was used as a Grist Mill. There is just something about being in a building that is over 200 years old.

Stay tuned … more sessions from The Barn coming soon…
