Las Vegas, Nevada – Editoral

Friday, April 12th, 2013

Throughout the years I have had amazing opportunities to travel with my photography business and I was thrilled when I found out I would be traveling to Las Vegas, Nevada this past March. I had never been to Las Vegas and if I could be honest I was a little nervous about going, since you hear so many stories about ‘What happens in Vegas…’.

First things first, find a travel companion who has been before. At least once a year I travel to a large photography conference to improve my skills, refresh and rejuvenate. Last February I traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana for the Imaging Conference and met the fabulous Jen Osojnicki from Massachusetts.  We stuck together and she showed me the side of New Orleans I would never have seen on my own, outside the hotel room and conference centre.  Jen took me to the Garden district and to Bourbon Street and I will forever be thankful that we met one early morning on the shuttle.  We discussed attending a different conference for 2013, WPPI, it is always held in Las Vegas and I was thankful that Jen had been before.  Although our flights were scheduled to arrive minutes apart mine was delayed for a few hours so I arrived just after midnight on the weekend of the time change, so really, it was 4am for me!

Jen and I headed out early for some classes but we made sure to take in a few sights of Las Vegas as well.  Since we left snow behind us we made the most of unseasonably hot days in Vegas. We even spent an hour or two by the pool for lunch one afternoon.  I came home refreshed with new ideas, new techniques and a completely different view of Las Vegas than the one I had imagined.

Enjoy a few images from that trip and a huge thank you to Jen for being my travel companion. We had lots of fun, lots of laughs and have set our sights on our next adventure in 2014.

#Blissdom Opryland Photowalk – Nashville, Tennesee

#Blissdom Photowalk

I have been extremely Blessed this year with the ability to travel to new places. Since January, I have been to California to photograph Brenda Ponnay, New Orleans, Louisiana for a Photography Convention and finally Nashville, Tennesee for Blissdom a blogging and social media conference. And in all of these places, I visited cities I had never been to before.

When I get to travel for work, especially to a conference where you are in Convention Centers and busy meeting people in real life as opposed to online, I find I don’t take as many photos as I would like. So when I got the email to sign up for a photowalk at the Opryland Hotel and Convention Center the morning before Blissdom officially kicked off, I may have been the first to sign up. Photowalks are fabulous, they allow you to set aside time to tour and take photos and capture everything around you. It also allows you to be in contact with other photographers both new and old (not in age, but in ability) which allows you to ask questions of others or offer tips if you can share.

Even if you are not a large group, like we were, you can always connect with another person who is traveling with you or who you are meeting and set aside time for your own little photowalk. See the sights and get to know the cities you are visiting. Photowalks are great!

I will be hosting a few photowalks here in Ottawa this year, so be sure to check in often for photowalk announcements.  And who knows, maybe I will be joining in on a photowalk in your city on my next round of traveling.

Author Brenda Ponnay – Orange County California

Monday, January 30th, 2012

The New Year has started off with an amazing opportunity to photograph Author Brenda Ponnay in California. Brenda is a Mom, graphic Artist, Children’s Book Author and owner of the blog Secret Agent Josephine among other amazing talents. I was first introduced to Brenda through her blog almost seven years ago and was able to meet her in person on a family trip to Disneyland two years ago. Since then, we have met up on both sides of the US several times and always have a great time when we are together. When Brenda mentioned in passing that she needed some promo shots done for her Children’s Books, I was quite quick to see if I could fit it into my schedule. Never one to pass up on an opportunity to head to California or to take photos of such a gorgeous subject, I packed my cameras and my suitcase and was off.

We had wonderful warm, January weather for our shoots, which took us from Palm Springs to the Orange Groves of the California Desert, to Newport Beach in Orange County. The sun was warm and the light was gorgeous and the model, so easy to work with.

Palm Springs in the afternoon, the architecture is amazing, the colours so vibrant.

Citrus groves, like I have never seen before.  Since I live in Canada’s Capital it is pretty safe to say that I don’t get the opportunity to shoot in a Citrus grove very often. I just couldn’t pass up on the chance to do it. It amazes me how almost everyone has an orange tree or a lemon tree it is no wonder that Californians are so healthy!

Brenda is also known as Secret Agent Josephine and her Children’s Books are based on the character Brenda created. In Newport Beach there is a restaurant with a mini-Eiffel Tower so we couldn’t pass up the chance to use it in our shoot.  I look forward to another time when perhaps I can follow Brenda to Paris and capture her in front of the real thing.

Thank you to Brenda for such an amazing opportunity. I enjoyed my trip tremendously and only wish we were closer in geography so that we could work together more. I am already looking forward to the next time we do get to work together.

Anna Epp Photography in San Diego – Ottawa Photographer

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

For the next few days I will be attending a blogging conference in San Diego called BlogHer.  I have been blogging now on my lifestyle blog for six years and almost four here at Anna Epp Photography.  Attending such a wonderful conference gives you the change to mingle with other bloggers, learn from other bloggers, meet some of the bloggers you have read over the years and admired in real life and most important of all to be reinspired with your writing and blogging.

I am not sure I will even get to the beach this year in California, and the photo is actually from a different California Beach, but I just couldn’t resist sharing with you.
